This unit is the standard Blueair 601 unit with the SmokestopFilter that has more activated carbon for better smoke and gas removal.

The best made better! The 601 cleans more air, more efficiently. In rooms as large as 679 square feet, Blueair's patented two-stage HEPASilent™ technology captures 99.97% of 0.1 micron particles, including allergy-provoking pollen grains, dust mites, mold spores and pet dander particles.

Blueair is the system for people living with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory conditions, or for anyone who wants cleaner, more breathable air. Advances in fan and filter design have dramatically improved efficiency, gaining the new 601 even better Clean Air Delivery Rates than the original Best of Class 501.

Energy Efficient
Blueair's phenomenally low power usage means you can run the system 24/7 without a jump in electricity consumption. In fact, it costs about the same to clean the air in your home as it does to power a single lightbulb: only 35 watts on low to 120 watts on high.

Superior Quality
Blueair is designed, engineered and built for people who expect the very best and don't want to compromise on health, design or function. The Blueair system housing is made of galvanized steel, rather than less durable plastic. The fan and blower are manufactured by EBM, a maker of telecom and medical equipment. Blueair systems offer an exceptionally long product life and carry a 10-year limited warranty.

Cleans Air Quietly
Sophisticated materials and precision engineering allow Blueair to clean indoor air without the noise associated with less advanced units. On the lowest setting, the units emit no more sound than a desktop computer. To achieve exceptionally quiet operation, Blueairıs patented HEPASilent™ filter technology traps particles two ways: with mechanical and electrostatic filters. This combination creates a filter system through which air flows freely. Most air cleaners require a powerful, noisy fan to pull air through densely packed filters. Since air passes easily through Blueair filter media, the fan doesn't have to work as hard or as loud. Even the housing is designed with quiet operation in mind, replacing sound-sonant plastic with noise-muffling steel.

Easy Maintenance
Simply open the unit's lid, lift out and drop in filters every 6 months. Choose the optional SmokeStop Filter Kit for better protection from smoke and other airborne gases.

Height: 26"; Width: 26" x 20"

One complete set of filters included.

President's Review*

The Blueair 501 is quiet and safe.

At first I was skeptical about carrying the BlueAir line since it uses ionization technology (ionizers produce ozone which is very toxic). However, after talking to customers who loved the unit, I decided to test it for myself. The first thing I noticed was that it was VERY quiet, noticably quieter than the already quiet IQAir, and considerably quieter than the AustinAir.

I then tested the unit's ozone output by placing IQAir test strips on the top output vent of the 501 Smokestop unit. There was no detectable ozone after the one hour test period. In fact, the test strip sat on the the output vent of the unit for over a week and still didn't change color -- even though a control test strip placed elsewhere in the room started to change color (indicating a low level of ambient ozone).

The steel construction is a big plus for those sensitive to plastic and its attractive design is a benefit for anyone. I am now a convert and have both BlueAir and IQAir units running continuously in my bedroom. I even have the smaller BlueAir 402 unit running in my kid's bedroom.

Blueair 601

10/26/2006 - by Robert from Phoenix, Az

The best air purifier on the market, period. Ease of use, quient operation and no ozone output. The only problem is the high cost of the filter replacements. $79.95 twice a year [or $147 for smokestop filters]. Thats the price you pay for having such a great system to purify your air.
